The author's best work yet! I've been a fan of Logan's novels since the first "Deep Space Travel to Mars" series book, The Phobos Expedition. His writing is well-researched, exciting, and just plain fun. This third book in the series, The Martian Enigma, is no exception. Logan has definitely brought his "A-Game" with this novel. It has it all, spectacular space adventure, lovers separated by the vastness of space, and a beautiful, rogue android. Don't miss out. Give this one a listen.

THE deimos incident
I really enjoyed this book. From the first page, it pulls you in and doesn't let go until the last ... and maybe not even then. The author develops the characters well, so their struggles resonate with the reader as do their successes. The author's depth of knowledge about NASA space is impressive and adds to the authenticity of the story--I found myself thinking "this could happen!" Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this book. You won't be sorry.

How do we go to Mars? What are the challenges? How could you not like a book that starts out in a Texas honky-tonk playing pool. (And yes, I'm Texas born and own a pickup truck!) Having a love for astronomy and space exploration has been in my bones since I was a kid. Living close by, I have visited NASA many times over the years thanks to astronaut friends and a cousin who worked there. With a degree in physics from UT along with my knowledge of astronomy, I am usually skeptical of sci-fi books. But this book is a wonderful surprise. It's well written. The entire story is highly plausible. Attention to detail, including descriptions of characters, settings, and actions allow for a vivid imagination of all aspects of the story. Everyone knows that a trip to Mars will be fraught with potential problems. This book exposes these many issues vividly. You don't have to be a sci-fi nut to enjoy this book. If you like space exploration or astronomy, you will enjoy this book.

That said, this volume carries on nicely from the first volume, throwing in some politics, a fairly exciting space rescue, and more alien stuff. Continuing to enjoy this series. Upon receiving the novel, I peeked at the opening and got hooked by the story. I read it in one sitting. Quite a journey from Amarillo to Mars. Good characters, including autonomous androids, and a good plot to weave everything together. Loved it!

Great book! I was drawn into this exciting adventure from the beginning. The characters are very well developed - even the Androids! And, I felt myself excited to read how (and if) they would manage to escape what appears to be insurmountable circumstances. This is a page-turner. My only complaint—I hate to have to wait until next year for the last book in this trilogy.

THE Phobos expedition
A Mars trip for everyone. The long awaited dream of astronauts and astronaut camp followers, is for NASA to send a manned spaceship to Mars. But first, there is the need to provide interim fuel and supplies on Phobos, a moon of Mars, in preparation for the final leg to the planet itself. Is Phobos a friendly moon or is it an artificial satellite placed there by an "other" civilisation eons ago and potentially lethal? We do not know.
The Russian’s first three probes have been lost to unknown causes and this has placed pressure on the American team to be ultra cautious in approaching the launch. The launch crew tackling the launch to Phobos is made up of a twin, testing the potential for EXP with her twin left on earth with the Higgs-Boson analyzer (doubt that it will work, but hey, this is science fiction), two other Astronauts and a humanoid robot, named Andy Roid who longs to be “human-like” and eventually becomes a hero to the crew.
The author mixes this elegant Mars launch cocktail with career intrigue at top level in NASA, the eternal struggle with the Russians and more than enough technology to make you feel he has mastered the genre. I never felt as if I had lost the thread of the story; he keeps your finger on the page turner button and I can more than recommend the The Phobos Expedition as a great read. But more, you can read the book for some real insight into how a Mars landing might be accomplished. What more can I say, “I learned a lot”.

The first of three novels about the exploration of Mars set in a contemporary/near future. The author strives fo authenticity in the characters, NASA operations, and technology without getting too wildly off subject, although there are hints of "ancient aliens" as the story proceeds. There is also a lot of Texas culture and lifestyle included which I enjoyed giving a different feel to other such stories I've read. The whole concept holds together quite well, although some of the technical aspects are a touch far fetched and seem wildly advanced compared to the rest. Again, I won't spoil this for other readers. I've already ordered the other two volumes in the series, so I guess I'm going all the way to Mars with the author.

Espionage is woven throughout the story leaving you wondering who can be trusted. A power play at NASA weaves in and out of the story. On the fringes of this tapestry are Western history and culture. This book is a good story well woven.

THE SPIRIT GATE
I have just finished The Spirit Gate and The Lost Portal, and they were fantastic. I did not want them to end, and I could hardly put them down. I felt as if I were one of the time travelers. I have read lots of books on the American Indians (a love of mine). These books were far better than any of the American Indian stories I have ever read. Thanks for the great trip, and I'll look forward to your next book!

Although I enjoyed all three books in the series, The Spirit Gate is my favorite. The author seemed to have fun writing the characters and adding touches of humor throughout. The whole Anasazi culture at Chaco Canyon was fascinating, especially the interplay between the ancient shaman, Cheveyo, and the modern day scientists.

The Lost Portal is a MUST READ! Logan is not only a terrific writer; he knows how to tell a story. His fully-developed characters, those you don't want to say good-bye to, are picked up again in his second book of his "Ancient Secrets" series. Definitely not a "little-green-men" novel.
The Lost Portal, based on folklore from the Anasazi tribe in the Southwest, makes you fall in love with his characters all over again in their modern-day fight to save their region from the threat of water shortage. Both books hold your interest, leave you wanting more. My advice to the author: write faster...I can't wait for your third! Watch this new writer. He has what it takes in the writing field.

Clear, crisp sentences propel this adventure along like a Formula One car. Oh, Logan has given us a hint of where humankind came from. What more can an author do?
In sum, The Lost Portal is a modern day adventure story, a love story, a how-to-do on major hydro-engineering projects, an archaeological mystery and prophecy. It's like Indiana Jones and Louis L'amour collaborated on a book. Okay, neither Louis nor Indy were engineers, but Logan is one. A great read.
